Summary of 2017 ASCA AGM – meet the new ASCA Board

The Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA) held its 2017 Annual General Meeting on Friday 15 September at Specialist Espresso Services in West Melbourne.

Around 25 members attended the meeting, which discussed the following items:

  • Secretary Jeremy Regan confirmed minutes of the last preceding AGM
  • Meeting officially opened and welcome – Acting Vice President Kieran Westlake acted as chairperson
  • Kieran presented the President’s report in the Absence of Brent Williams, highlighting major accomplishments of the year including:
    • Successful launch of the first ASCA Symposium
    • Initiatives presented by the formation of the Competitions Committee
    • Relaunch of the new ASCA web site
    • A successful year of regional and national competitions
  • Barista Guild Overview: Barista Guild Head Nic Michaelides looked at Barista Guild activities, including competition information night and Barista Camp
  • Roasters Guild Overview: Roasters Guild Head Lucy Ward discussed Roasters Guild activities including defect cupping nights, and first Australian Roasting Championships
  • Treasurers Report and Sponsorship Overview: Treasurer Kieran Westlake presented financial report, and review of new sponsorship matrix
  • Members passed a motion to form a committee to review the implementation of a Technicians Guild.
  • Election of the following Office Bearers. No voting took place, as there was only one nomination per position.
