How the Finalists Were Decided: The Bell Curve Distribution
This year, the selection of finalists was determined using a bell curve distribution. Here’s a simple explanation of how this process works:
– All competitors’ scores are collected and plotted on a graph.
– The bell curve, also known as a normal distribution, shows that most competitors’ scores cluster around the average, with fewer competitors achieving very high or very low scores.
– Finalists are chosen from the top performers—those whose scores fall on the higher end of the curve. This ensures that the selection is fair and reflects outstanding performance relative to the entire group.
– This method helps account for variations in judging and ensures that only the competitors who truly excelled progress to the next stage.
